Warwick’s Architecture
Like its near neighbour, Stratford-Upon-Avon, Warwick is a historic town adorned with many half-timber Tudor buildings.
When we think of Warwick though, I think it’s fair to say that the castle is the building most people associate with the town.
Warwick Castle was originally built by William the Conqueror in 1068, the original structure was made mainly of wood. In the 12th century, the Castle was rebuilt in stone. Becoming much more like the castle we know today.
Charlecote Park is another fantastic example of historic architecture in the Warwick area. Built in 1558 by Sir Thomas Lucy. Charlecote Park is known to be one of the first great Elizabethan houses. The grand house is set in a beautiful deer-inhabited park. The National Trust has done a fantastic job of preserving the house and grounds. Visitors can observe the stunning architecture of the time and many of the rooms and outbuildings have been preserved so we can take a glimpse into the past.
